The tool turns one selected Apple Mail message into the two files the Austrian authority asks for, then prepares an email draft. It does not send, report in bulk, or move your mail through a third-party service.

WHY IT'S WORTH IT

Unsolicited advertising email is illegal in Austria, and reporting it works.

Advertising email sent without your prior consent breaks the law. A report to the Fernmeldebüro is what turns that into a real consequence for the sender, and it costs you nothing.

It breaks the law

Sending advertising email without prior consent violates §174 TKG 2021. The narrow existing-customer exception rarely covers genuine cold outbound.

The sender risks a real fine

The Fernmeldebüro can impose an administrative penalty of up to €50,000 per violation. Your report is what opens the case against the sender.

HOW IT WORKS

From inbox to a reviewable draft in three deliberate steps

The workflow removes repetitive form filling while keeping the legal submission under your control.

    Select the message

    Click the unwanted advertising email in Apple Mail so it is the active message.

  2. 02

    Run “FB melden”

    Choose the script from Apple Mail's script menu. It exports the message, uses its actual received time, and fills the official PDF.

  3. 03

    Check and send yourself

    Apple Mail opens a draft addressed to the Fernmeldebüro with the PDF and .eml attached. Read it, verify it, then decide whether to send.

BUILT TO STAY BORING

No mailbox login. No upload. No hidden submit button.

Apple Mail already has access to your accounts, so the utility works through AppleScript on your Mac. There is no OAuth flow, IMAP or SMTP connection, Wavect server, or background bulk reporter.

Local by default

The source email and generated files remain on your Mac until you choose to send the draft.

Every report starts from one message you selected and ends as a draft you must approve.

What you need before the first report

This is a small developer-friendly utility, not a signed Mac App Store app. The repository contains the complete setup guide.

macOS and Apple Mail

Your relevant mailbox must already be configured in Apple Mail.

Install the Python runner with brew install uv. Dependencies are resolved on the first run.

Your reporter profile

Copy the example configuration, add your contact details, and map each Apple Mail address under matching_addresses.

Your signature as a PNG

Save a transparent PNG of your handwritten signature to assets/signature.png so the generated form is signed. Skip it and the PDF comes out blank there, so a real report still needs it.

Mail script permission

Enable the macOS script menu and allow the script to control Apple Mail when macOS asks.

Reporting is free for you. The sender is the one who risks a fine.

Filing the report costs you nothing. An unsolicited advertising email is an administrative offense the Fernmeldebüro pursues, so reporting it is fee-exempt for the reporter, and the advertising-email form itself carries no fee. The €21 input fee on the authority's general forms page applies to licence and frequency applications, not spam reports. Forms and submission routes can still change, so check the authority's current guidance before your first real report.

KNOWN LIMITS

What this tool deliberately does not promise

  • Apple Mail exports the message source with complete headers, but it is not byte-identical to the raw server stream.
  • If the authority changes its PDF, the bundled form and field coordinates may need an update.
  • The utility prepares the paperwork. It does not decide whether a message is legally reportable.
  • The official submission route and form can change, so verify the authority's current guidance before the first real case.

Questions before you install it

When it is advertising you never consented to. A message from a company you already buy from may fall under the narrow existing-customer exception, but genuine cold outbound to your address generally does not. The tool prepares the paperwork; the legal call stays yours.
