Node.js Development

# Node.js backends that keep requests, jobs and business rules in order.

An API returning success is only part of the job. Payments can arrive twice, workers can restart and a slow dependency can hold a request open. We build Node.js services around those real operating conditions, with explicit contracts and recovery behavior.

THE ENGAGEMENT

## Scope, implementation and acceptance.

1. **Define the contract** Agree inputs, roles and business outcomes.
2. **Build durable behavior** Separate requests, jobs and external effects.
3. **Exercise failure paths** Verify retries, limits and recovery.

DIRECT ANSWER

Node.js development covers server-side product logic, APIs, integrations inside the application and background processing. We define the boundaries between requests, durable work and external systems, then verify the failure paths as well as the successful flow.

Best for

- Products needing a maintained JavaScript or TypeScript backend
- Teams with unreliable webhooks, queues or slow API paths

Consider another approach

- Only connecting two existing business systems
- A frontend feature with no server-side change

## Begin at the business operation

We map who can invoke an operation, what it changes and how the caller learns the result. API schemas, validation, authorization and database constraints belong in that map. If the task is moving records between established tools, use [API Integration](/services/api-integration/). This page owns the backend your product itself needs.

## Bound work instead of hoping it finishes

We design timeouts, cancellation, queue limits and retries against the downstream systems involved. Duplicate delivery needs idempotent handling; a database update and an external effect need a documented consistency approach. CPU-intensive work is profiled and isolated when needed, following the [Node.js guidance on event-loop blocking](https://nodejs.org/en/learn/asynchronous-work/dont-block-the-event-loop).

## A duplicate webhook causes one business action

Illustrative acceptance scenario: the same provider event is delivered twice, the worker restarts after persisting state, and the next attempt completes the operation once. The caller can inspect a stable status and the log identifies each attempt without exposing secrets. We agree the provider contract, persistence boundary and replay fixture before implementation. No blanket exactly-once network guarantee is implied.

## Keep the deployment as small as the workload allows

A modular application may be enough; we do not split services merely because a queue exists. Deliverables include the implemented endpoints or workers, schema changes, meaningful tests, configuration and rollback steps. [DevOps & Platform Engineering](/services/devops-platform-engineering/) can own broader environment and release work, while [DevSecOps](/services/devsecops/) owns pipeline security controls.

## Give maintainers a way to diagnose the next incident

We agree useful service metrics, structured logs, correlation identifiers and alert ownership for the affected paths. The handover explains how to replay a failed job safely, rotate a dependency credential and recognize a capacity limit. You retain the repository and infrastructure accounts. Ongoing operating hours and response commitments require a separate agreement.

## Questions before you start

### Which Node.js framework do you use?

We start with the codebase and team constraints. NestJS or a smaller framework may fit; choosing a framework does not replace a clear data model and API contract.

### Can you improve an existing backend?

Yes. We reproduce the problem, inspect traces or representative workloads and identify a bounded change. Access recovery or a provider handover is scoped through Software Takeover first.

### Will you introduce microservices?

Only when independent deployment, scaling or ownership justifies the extra operational work. The assessment can recommend keeping a modular monolith.

### What does performance acceptance mean?

We agree the workload, environment, latency measure and error threshold before testing. Results describe that setup and do not become a universal throughput promise.

## Continue with the right scope

- [Connect existing business systems](/services/api-integration/)
- [Make builds and deployments repeatable](/services/devops-platform-engineering/)
- [Maintain the delivered application](/services/software-maintenance/)
