FastAPI Development

# FastAPI contracts that hold up beyond the interactive documentation.

An endpoint can look clear in its generated documentation while returning internal fields, holding connections too long or blocking unrelated requests. We develop and review FastAPI services around the contract clients consume and the resources each operation needs.

THE ENGAGEMENT

## Check the contract and the work behind it.

1. **Define client expectations** Agree input, output, permissions and compatibility.
2. **Trace resource lifetimes** Follow dependencies through success, failure and cancellation.
3. **Test the operating behavior** Exercise the agreed API and realistic dependency delays.

DIRECT ANSWER

FastAPI development covers typed HTTP APIs, request and response models, dependency wiring and execution behavior. We agree validation, authorization, compatibility and failure handling, then verify the implementation against representative clients and operating conditions.

Best for

- Teams building or extending a FastAPI service with known consumers
- Existing APIs needing contract, dependency or concurrency review

Consider another approach

- Model training or evaluation as the main deliverable
- Connecting existing business systems without changing the application API

## Define what a client may send and receive

We review required and optional fields, validation, response shapes and version compatibility with the consuming application. Separate output models help control exposed fields, as described in FastAPI’s [response-model guidance](https://fastapi.tiangolo.com/tutorial/response-model/). Authorization remains an explicit application rule. Integration between established business tools retains its own scope under [API Integration](/services/api-integration/).

## Give every resource an acquisition and release policy

Database sessions, credentials and shared clients have different lifetimes. We trace how dependencies are created, reused and closed, including exceptions and streamed responses. FastAPI’s [yield dependency guidance](https://fastapi.tiangolo.com/tutorial/dependencies/dependencies-with-yield/) informs the implementation for the installed version. Work continuing outside a request needs its own resource ownership rather than a borrowed session that may already be closed.

## Check what actually waits and what blocks

An async endpoint does not make a blocking library asynchronous. We inspect database drivers, outbound calls and compute-heavy steps, then choose execution boundaries against the workload. [FastAPI’s concurrency documentation](https://fastapi.tiangolo.com/async/) distinguishes these paths. Acceptance records the environment, request mix and relevant latency or error measures; the framework name alone establishes no throughput promise.

## An API change preserves the client's usable contract

Illustrative acceptance: an account endpoint gains an optional field while existing callers continue to receive the agreed response. A caller cannot read another account, and internal notes stay out of the output. A controlled dependency failure exercises the error response and cleanup path. The test records compatibility and resource behavior. This is an example verification plan, not a client result.

## Keep assessment evidence separate from implementation claims

Our [Cedars assessment](/case-studies/cedars/) documents targeted source review and controlled checks in an environment that included FastAPI. For your service, we agree whether the deliverable is a review, implemented changes or both. Handover includes API definitions, representative tests, dependency and execution notes, plus deployment requirements. General Python tooling stays with [Python Development](/services/python-development/).

## Questions before you start

### Does a response model replace access control?

No. It can define and filter the response shape, but the application must still decide whether this caller can read or change the requested record. We test both responsibilities.

### Should every endpoint be async?

No. The choice depends on the libraries and work involved. We identify blocking I/O and CPU-heavy operations, then test the chosen arrangement rather than applying async declarations everywhere.

### Can you review an API built by another team?

Yes. We first agree repository and environment access, consumers and representative fixtures. Findings identify observable behavior and limitations; implementation is included only when commissioned.

### Will generated OpenAPI documentation keep clients compatible?

Documentation exposes the declared contract, but does not establish backward compatibility by itself. We compare the changed contract with actual client expectations and test agreed older requests and responses.

## Continue with the right scope
