Dynamic Pricing

# Change prices with rules your team can explain.

A price engine should not become an unexplained number that merchandisers are afraid to touch. We build the decision path from approved inputs to a proposed price, with limits, review and a record of why each change happened.

THE ENGAGEMENT

## Approved inputs. Bounded decisions. Reversible publication.

1. **Write the policy** Define objectives, exclusions, floors and approval authority.
2. **Test the decisions** Replay historical or representative scenarios against a baseline.
3. **Release gradually** Start with recommendations or a limited catalog and monitor exceptions.

DIRECT ANSWER

Wavect develops pricing automation using explicit rules or predictive models, with approved inputs, margin and change limits, review workflows and controlled publication. The engagement covers the decision and its implementation, with evaluation before wider rollout.

Best for

- Commerce teams updating prices manually across many items
- Businesses that need a governed price recommendation or repricing system

Consider another approach

- A simple feed that copies an already approved price between systems

## Decide which outcome the price may optimize

Margin, sell-through and revenue can point to different prices. We make the objective, protected items, minimum contribution and maximum rate of change explicit. Your commercial and legal owners approve the policy and customer-facing disclosures. The software implements that policy; the engagement does not provide legal advice or assume that every available competitor signal may be collected or used.

## A stale cost must not become a confident price

Inventory, purchase cost, demand and competitor observations have different freshness and reliability. Record their source and timestamp, reject invalid values and define a fallback when an input is missing. [Product Information Management](/services/product-information-management/) owns product identities and attributes; [API Integration](/services/api-integration/) can provide reliable movement of the approved inputs and outputs.

## Start with rules that can be compared

A rule-based baseline makes it possible to judge whether a model improves the decision. We test selected strategies on representative data and identify where historical results cannot predict customer behavior after a price change. If forecasting is needed, [Machine Learning](/services/machine-learning/) can provide the model while pricing rules retain floors, exclusions and human override.

## Illustrative check: a bad feed cannot trigger a price collapse

A test supplier feed reports a zero cost for a normally stocked item. The pricing workflow rejects the input, keeps the last approved price and alerts the owner. A legitimate price change records its inputs, applicable rules and approval. Rolling back restores the intended version without overwriting unrelated edits. The scenario demonstrates controls, not a financial forecast.

## Observe recommendations before allowing automatic publication

Begin in shadow mode or with a restricted assortment. Merchandisers inspect suggested changes and disagreements; the team records which cases need another rule. Where traffic and operations support it, a controlled experiment can evaluate the policy. Revenue alone is insufficient: consider margin, availability, customer complaints and any agreed fairness or channel-consistency constraints.

## Give commercial teams control of the policy

Deliver the rule catalog, configuration interface, decision history, evaluation results and publication runbook. Access roles distinguish proposing, approving and deploying a change. The handover states who reviews performance and how to disable repricing safely. New channels or objectives are a scope change because they alter the decision being optimized, not merely another API endpoint.

## Questions before you start

### Does dynamic pricing require machine learning?

No. Transparent rules may solve the problem and provide a useful baseline. A model is justified by evaluated improvement for your objective.

### Can a person approve prices before publication?

Yes. We can build recommendation-only, approval-based or bounded automated workflows and define which products use each mode.

### Will you guarantee higher margins?

No. The project can deliver measured decision quality and controlled implementation; market response remains uncertain and must be evaluated.

### Can we use competitor prices?

We confirm data access, quality and permitted use with your owners. Missing or unreliable observations must have a defined fallback.

## Choose your next step

- [Build forecasting models](/services/machine-learning/)
- [Govern product and variant data](/services/product-information-management/)
- [Evaluate a pricing change](/services/product-analytics-experimentation/)
