C# & .NET Development

# Keep the business rules while changing the .NET application.

An established C# application often knows more about the business than its documentation does. We trace the behavior a change depends on, then implement an agreed feature, integration or runtime upgrade with a way to verify what was preserved.

THE ENGAGEMENT

## Make the behavior and compatibility requirements visible.

1. **Read the working system** Map the use case, dependencies and environment it relies on.
2. **Implement the agreed change** Preserve business rules and make failure behavior explicit.
3. **Rehearse release and recovery** Verify the changed application with its actual operating constraints.

DIRECT ANSWER

Wavect works on C#/.NET applications, APIs and supporting services with a defined compatibility and acceptance scope. Existing runtime, operating-system and dependency constraints are assessed before promising a move or replacement.

Best for

- Teams extending an existing C# application or API
- Businesses needing a controlled dependency or runtime upgrade

Consider another approach

- An assumed automatic conversion of every Windows application to a cross-platform product
- A provider transition that first needs access and ownership recovery

## Know which .NET application you are changing

We record the runtime, project types, NuGet dependencies, database providers and deployment environment. An ASP.NET API, a background worker and a Windows desktop application have different constraints. The first assessment identifies unsupported assumptions and the business path worth testing. If repository access, credentials or ownership are unresolved, start with [Software Takeover](/services/software-takeover/).

## Follow a business operation through its boundaries

A new endpoint or screen can affect authorization, persistence and downstream work. We trace those responsibilities, keep business rules testable and review resource lifetimes and asynchronous calls where they affect correctness. Data access includes transaction boundaries, conflicting updates and compatibility with existing records. An external side effect needs its own retry and reconciliation decision; a database transaction does not automatically control another service.

## A runtime upgrade is a compatibility decision

We compare the current project with the proposed runtime and inspect the packages, APIs and platform assumptions it uses. .NET Framework and modern .NET are not interchangeable names, and Windows-specific behavior needs explicit review. The [Microsoft porting overview](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/core/porting/framework-overview) is a reference for that assessment. Wider replacement strategy stays with [Legacy Modernization](/services/legacy-modernization/); a cloud relocation stays with [Cloud Migration](/services/cloud-migration/).

## A revised approval flow preserves pending work

Illustrative acceptance scenario: a C# service gains a second approval step while existing requests are still pending. Tests cover old and new records, the authorized roles and two users attempting conflicting decisions. The release rehearsal includes a failed deployment and the agreed data-recovery procedure. Passing compilation alone is not acceptance. The scenario defines possible verification, not a published customer outcome.

## Deliver the change with its operating assumptions

You receive source changes, regression checks, dependency decisions and release notes that explain any remaining platform restrictions. We document how database changes interact with application rollback instead of assuming every migration can be reversed. Bring a working build, representative test data and someone who can confirm the business rules. Continued maintenance can be agreed through [Software Maintenance](/services/software-maintenance/).

## Questions before you start

### Can you work on an older .NET Framework application?

We assess its framework, libraries and operating environment before agreeing the scope. A useful improvement may be possible without immediately moving the whole application to a different runtime.

### Will the application run on Linux afterwards?

Only if that target is explicitly agreed and verified. Windows-specific APIs, desktop frameworks and dependencies can constrain the application even when parts of its code use modern .NET.

### Do you replace the database or ORM?

Only when the evidence justifies it and the scope includes it. We first examine the existing queries, transaction behavior and data compatibility rather than treating a tool change as the goal.

### Does this include the entire provider handover?

The engineering scope can follow or accompany a handover, but access recovery, contracts and service continuity belong to a Software Takeover engagement. We keep those responsibilities visible.

## Choose your next step

- [Recover ownership and assess an inherited system](/services/software-takeover/)
- [Decide the wider modernization path](/services/legacy-modernization/)
- [Connect existing business systems](/services/api-integration/)
