Django Development

# Django applications whose data and permissions match the work.

A new approval step can affect database records, staff screens, exports and customer access at once. We develop Django applications around those connected responsibilities, preserving the data people depend on while making the next change understandable.

THE ENGAGEMENT

## Agree the record, the action and the release.

1. **Map the business record** Define relationships, ownership and permitted changes.
2. **Build the complete workflow** Connect views, administration and database behavior.
3. **Rehearse the data change** Verify migration, access and recovery together.

DIRECT ANSWER

Django development covers applications built around Django models, views, authentication and administration. We agree the business workflow, access rules and database changes together, then deliver the implementation and checks needed to maintain it.

Best for

- Teams extending an existing Django product or choosing Django for a defined application
- Products with structured records, staff administration and role-sensitive workflows

Consider another approach

- A standalone script or command-line tool
- A technology-neutral product discovery or complete architecture replacement

## Model what the business needs to preserve

We trace one workflow through its records, relationships and allowed transitions. Validation, database constraints and transaction boundaries receive separate decisions. Queries must retrieve the right records without accidental cross-account access. The result is an application change with explicit data rules. General packaging or operational scripts remain with [Python Development](/services/python-development/).

## Give staff the controls their role actually needs

Django’s [admin guidance](https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/stable/ref/contrib/admin/) treats the admin as an internal management interface. We configure the relevant forms, lists and actions, then check access on the server. Customer journeys can receive dedicated views. Hiding a field or button alone does not enforce a permission; related lookups, exports and bulk actions need review too.

## Review the migration before it reaches live records

Generated migration files are a starting point. We inspect the schema change, existing values and database-specific behavior, then rehearse on representative data. Backfills, incompatible application versions and maintenance windows are addressed in the release plan. [Django’s migration documentation](https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/stable/topics/migrations/) explains the mechanism; the project still needs an agreed recovery path for changes that cannot simply be reversed.

## An approval field arrives without opening another account

Illustrative acceptance: existing orders gain an approval status with an agreed treatment for historical records. A staff member can process their assigned account but cannot retrieve another account’s orders through a direct URL or export. The rehearsal records data counts, rejected operations and recovery steps. This is a proposed test scenario, not a client result.

## Leave the next release understandable

You receive code, migrations, role and workflow tests, configuration and operating notes in your repository. Our [Hyperstate AI case](/case-studies/hyperstate-ai/) documents Django API, authentication and project-management work. Your delivery scope is agreed against your application. A wider architecture replacement belongs to [Legacy Modernization](/services/legacy-modernization/); ongoing upgrades can continue under a separate maintenance scope.

## Questions before you start

### Can you work with an existing database?

Yes. We inspect schema ownership, migration history and representative data before proposing changes. Unmanaged tables or external writers need explicit treatment, rather than assuming Django owns every record.

### Should our whole application use Django admin?

The admin suits trusted staff managing records. Approval journeys or customer-facing tasks may need purpose-built views so the interface follows the workflow instead of exposing the database structure.

### Will a Django upgrade require a rewrite?

Not automatically. We check Python, Django and extension compatibility, then plan reviewable changes against critical journeys. A broader replacement is proposed only when the findings justify that separate scope.

### Do Django permissions automatically isolate customer accounts?

No. Model permissions alone do not define your tenant boundaries. We implement and test the relevant query, object and action checks across views, administration, exports and background work.

## Continue with the right scope

- [General Python applications and tools](/services/python-development/)
- [APIs centered on explicit request and response contracts](/services/fastapi-development/)
- [Plan a wider application migration](/services/legacy-modernization/)
