3D Modelling & Asset Preparation

3D models that fit the product you are building.

An attractive render does not tell you whether a model will load quickly, animate correctly or survive a later edit. We scope 3D modelling and asset preparation around the application that will use it, from an agreed visual brief to files tested in the intended runtime.

DIRECT ANSWER

Wavect creates, adapts and prepares 3D assets for an agreed application: geometry, UVs, materials, scale, performance budgets and export requirements, with editable source files and explicit acceptance checks.

Best for

  • Products that need usable 3D assets for a viewer, game or XR experience
  • Existing models that need cleanup, optimization or a dependable handover

Consider another approach

  • Manufacturing-ready CAD or engineering certification
  • An interactive application whose models are already complete

Start with the viewing distance and intended use

A small object in a mobile scene needs different detail from a product inspected close up. We agree the asset list, visual direction, dimensions, camera distances and target devices before production. Supplied photos, scans, CAD exports or existing meshes are inputs to assess, not interchangeable finished assets. The proposal names the modelling and art capabilities needed for the scope and confirms their availability.

Build geometry that supports the next step

We decide which parts need separate objects, sensible pivots or deformable topology. Cleanup can include reducing unnecessary geometry, repairing normals and rebuilding surfaces that a scan or generator produced poorly. Blender’s retopology guidance explains why a mesh may need restructuring before deformation. A rig, animation clips and collision geometry each require their own specification; a static model does not silently include them.

Keep surfaces and variants editable

Agree UV layout, texture resolution, material slots and the surface properties that matter at the intended viewing distance. We review seams, shading, transparency and material appearance under the target lighting. A product’s colour variants should remain identifiable after export. Decide which distinctions need geometry and which can use textures. Sample approvals establish what counts as a visual correction and what changes the brief.

Accept the asset inside its destination

Set triangle, texture, download and memory budgets against representative devices. Define any levels of detail and the import conventions for collision meshes or animation. A glTF or GLB delivery still needs checks in the actual loader; extension support and engine conventions can differ. We verify scale, orientation, materials and required movements. Interaction rules and application code stay with the relevant game, AR, XR or web project. Interactive 3D Development covers browser viewers and configurators.

Illustrative acceptance: a product with a removable cover

The agreed model opens in the named viewer at the specified scale. Its cover has the correct pivot, both approved material variants render, and textures resolve from the delivered package. The asset stays within its agreed budget at the test distance. If animation was commissioned, the cover opens without broken deformation or unintended intersections. This is an example acceptance exercise, not a reported customer result.

Make later edits possible

The handover lists editable scene files, linked textures, export settings, naming conventions and known limitations. Record the source and agreed usage rights of supplied, licensed and generated material; identify restrictions that affect redistribution. If AI-assisted generation is proposed, agree that workflow and the manual cleanup required. Our AI 3D asset workflow guide explains the evaluation questions. Asset production can then continue against the approved sample rather than an undefined style.

Questions before you start

Yes, after checking the source files, usage rights and target application. We distinguish repairs and optimization from changes to the object’s design, then agree what can be retained and what needs rebuilding.
Only when specified. We agree the skeleton or mechanism, movements, loop requirements and destination before estimating them. A simple product movement and a deforming character have different production and review needs.
We agree the required destinations and test their import paths. Geometry may transfer while materials, animation, extensions or collision conventions need adaptation. Extra formats and device-specific variants should be named in the scope.
This service delivers digital assets and their agreed validation. Gameplay, configurator logic and XR interaction are application work. Engineering tolerances, print preparation and manufacturing acceptance require a separately defined specialist scope.
