02BIOGRAPHY

## In their own line of work

Steve Johnson-Wozowiecki builds rooms. The first was THE ROOM, an interactive installation in 1989. The second was 240 MINUTES, an exhibition in 1990 built around two famous artists who did not exist. He and his collaborators invented them, staged them and watched press and public celebrate them as students of Warhol and Laurie Anderson. He drew his conclusions and has stayed out of the art world as an artist ever since.

As an exhibition maker he stayed in. He produced large group shows, culminating in X94: 650 artists, 25 exhibitions and 270 events over 50 days. He has painted since 1996 and sells directly from his studio to collectors, without galleries or openings.

In 2010 he went online, founding an agency and guiding media companies and cultural institutions through digital transformation. Since 2020 he has returned to the room as founder and artistic director of JONZN SPACE kollektiv. Its work combines narrative, interaction and media production. He has written plays, slam poetry, short stories and songs. In 2026 he published two novels: ZIMMER Berlin, tracing thirty years of the city from the fall of the Wall, and MACHINE WINE, a Jack Bongo novel. NOW | HERE collects his meditations.

He lives in Friedrichshain and keeps a studio in Köpenick, on the Spree.
