Previously Carbon Arc. 02 · BIOGRAPHY ## In their own line of work Joseph started in physics at UC Berkeley, then spent three years at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory on nuclear physics, high-energy accelerator physics, and radiation imaging. He went on to Cornell for a PhD in Biomedical Engineering on nuclear fusion and cancer research, funded as an NSF Graduate Research Fellow and a Sloan Fellow. From there he moved into finance: Bridgewater Associates, where he worked across investment engineering, knowledge engineering, product engineering management, and finally Manager of Technology & Intelligence on AI-driven equities research and algorithmic decision-making. In 2019 he co-founded Vivun and spent the next seven years as Chief AI Officer researching how AI teammates can actually achieve structured reasoning, durable memory, and autonomous action. In parallel he founded Battery CI, a systematic quantitative FX hedge fund, and Openmind, a research bet on causal inference for general AI. In May 2026 he became Chief AI Officer at Hudson Bay Capital Management LP in New York, applying the same research discipline to institutional asset management. He continues to advise PromptID on K-12 AI for competency validation, Appian Water on sustainable water access, and AGMI Group on AI tooling for pharmaceutical consulting.
