CTO as a Service ist ein Verpackungs-Label, kein anderer Job. Unter dem Label verkauft ein Anbieter CTO-Urteilsvermögen (Architekturentscheidungen, Hiring-Loops, Vendor-Management, board-taugliches Reporting) als wiederkehrenden Service mit definiertem Zeit-Commitment. Zieh das Branding ab, und übrig bleibt ein [Fractional CTO](/de/glossary/fractional-cto/) auf [Retainer](/de/glossary/retainer/): gleiche Autorität, gleiche Meetings, ein Abo statt eines Gehalts.

Das Label ist relevant wegen dem, was es verstecken kann. “As a Service” suggeriert, die Person sei austauschbar, und CTO-Arbeit ist die am wenigsten austauschbare Arbeit, die eine Firma einkauft. Kontext verzinst sich: Die Architekturentscheidung aus Monat eins versteht nur, wer in Monat vier die Trade-offs hat landen sehen. Anbieter, die hinter einer Service-Marke Berater rotieren, setzen diesen Kontext bei jeder Rotation auf null, und der Kunde zahlt jedes Mal das Re-Onboarding.

Was du vor der Unterschrift prüfst: wer genau auftaucht (benannte Personen, kein Pool), ob diese Personen Entscheidungsbefugnis haben oder an jemanden eskalieren, den du nie triffst, und wie das Engagement endet (Übergabeplan, kein Renewal-Pitch). In Österreich läuft das normalerweise als Retainer im Dienstvertrags-Stil, nicht als Werkvertrag, weil die Leistung laufendes Urteilsvermögen ist.
