WAVECT vs WUNDERWERK

Wavect or wunderwerk. AI as a standalone capability, or AI inside a product.

wunderwerk is a Tyrolean software team that describes itself as a small, experienced group of software architects, full-stack developers and AI engineers, building apps, platforms, industrial software, automation and AI for SMEs in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. The WKO company registry lists it as authorised to carry out KMU.DIGITAL & GREEN consulting, which matters if that funding path is part of your budget. We build products across the same modern surface, with senior-only delivery, two founders in the product call, and international rollout experience. If the funding path and a DACH-focused software partner drive the decision, they are a sharp pick. If product ownership and cross-domain depth drive it, we are.

Decision snapshot

VerdictThe practical split: If the bullets on the right describe your project, wunderwerk is the sharper pick. If the bullets on the left describe it, talk to us.

Wavect is best when

  • AI is one feature of a larger product you are shipping. You need a team that owns frontend, backend, infra, and the AI piece.
  • You want an English-speaking delivery partner alongside German, or your customer base extends beyond DACH.
  • You need product judgement around the AI feature, not just the AI implementation.

The alternative is best when

  • Your need is a contained AI capability inside an existing system. Their AI page publishes chatbots, recommendation systems, document classification, machine learning and image analysis, plus their own automation agents.3
  • You are an Austrian SME and the KMU.DIGITAL co-funding programme is a budget gate. The WKO company registry lists wunderwerk as authorised to carry out KMU.DIGITAL & GREEN consulting.4
  • Your team is German-speaking and your customer base is too. Their site and service pages are published in German and their stated market is Austria, Germany and Switzerland.1

Questions to ask before you choose

  1. If the AI capability later needs to grow into a full product, ask who owns the frontend, backend and integrations around it. Their team page states that clients have direct contact with the managing director from the first conversation to the finished software, so ask what that means for capacity when several projects run at once.2 Ask us the same question about our two-founder model.
  2. Who owns the trained model, prompts and data pipelines once the AI work is delivered, and can you export them? Put that question to both of us in writing before you sign.
  3. The WKO registry entry records a Certified Digital Consultant qualification with a validity date, and the KMU.DIGITAL & GREEN authorisation alongside it.4 Ask for the exact eligibility conditions on your side of the programme and what happens to your budget if the application is not approved.

Commercial risk to watch

  • The visible price is not the whole cost; the risk sits in scope of work, stack breadth, and the moment scope changes.
  • Ask what the vendor is paid to increase: hours, seats, retained advice, platform usage, or shipped outcomes.

Evidence notes

  • Every statement about wunderwerk on this page is sourced below, with the date we opened the page. The certification claim is sourced to the WKO registry rather than to their own site, because a certification claim checked only against the certificate holder is not verifiable.
  • This comparison is built from what wunderwerk publishes plus Wavect’s own operating model. It is not a statement about the quality of their work.

Project fit: not limited to small builds

Project size and provider headcount are separate decisions. Wavect’s delivery unit is a named senior core, but that does not limit the work to MVPs or short startup projects. Larger projects are split into phases with separate budgets and acceptance criteria. We also build internal systems and process automations inside a client’s existing repositories, tooling and workflows. A vetted bench supports continuity and scope-specific capacity. A larger provider may still be the better choice when the main requirement is several parallel teams, an incumbent framework agreement or certifications Wavect does not currently hold.

How they actually differ

Six dimensions where AI-as-capability and AI-inside-a-product diverge.

WAVECT DIMENSION ALTERNATIVE

End-to-end product builds. AI is one capability inside the product we ship.

SCOPE OF WORK

Apps and software for web, Android, iOS and Windows, platform and SaaS work, industrial software, product configurators, LoRaWAN tracking, energy-transition software, and AI.1

Modern web, mobile, AI, IoT, plus smart-contract work when projects need it. Full-stack from frontend to backend to ML.

STACK BREADTH

Full-stack development with optional IoT and hardware integration, plus AI capabilities: chatbots, recommendation systems, document classification, machine learning and image analysis.13

Client delivery in English and German. DACH-native, with native German-speaking founders. Site localized in EN, DE, ES, ZH for international reach.

DELIVERY LANGUAGES

Site and service pages published in German.1 Ask directly whether English-language project communication and documentation are available.

17 countries. Austrian-headquartered, working internationally.

AREA SERVED

Austria, Germany and Switzerland, aimed at startups and SMEs.1 Registered seat in St. Ulrich am Pillersee in Tyrol, with Vienna and Berlin named as further offices.56

Weekly outcome retainer from €400 per week, full-stack delivery €10,000 to €30,000 per month, or fixed-price Werkvertrag from €3,500.

PRICING MODEL

Project quote. The WKO registry lists them as authorised for KMU.DIGITAL & GREEN consulting, which is the route to programme co-funding for qualifying Austrian SMEs.4

Senior only, founder in every call, one to three people per engagement.

TEAM MODEL

Describes itself as a small, experienced team of software architects, full-stack developers and AI engineers, with over 20 years of project experience and 80-plus projects stated on the team page.12 That page lists the people on it by name and role rather than a headcount, and states direct client contact with the managing director from the first conversation to the finished software.2

The real difference, in practice

wunderwerk builds more than contained AI features. Its homepage publishes app and software programming for web, Android, iOS and Windows, platform and SaaS work such as learning platforms and booking portals, industrial software, product configurators, LoRaWAN tracking, and software for the energy transition.1 For a German-speaking SME, especially one that qualifies for KMU.DIGITAL co-funding, that breadth plus a registered funding path is a real advantage.4

The certification is worth checking at the source rather than taking from a brochure. The WKO company registry lists wunderwerk software GmbH as authorised to carry out KMU.DIGITAL & GREEN consulting, and records a Certified Digital Consultant qualification with a validity date on it.4 The company is registered in the Austrian company register under FN 535905x since 10 July 2020 and is listed as active.6 The registered seat is in St. Ulrich am Pillersee in Tyrol, and the imprint names Vienna and Berlin as further office cities.5

We start one level out. We build the product, and AI is one pillar of it alongside the frontend, the integrations, the data model, and everything else a shipping product needs. The AI is not the deliverable. The product is.

The honest test is not whether either team can build the software. It is who should own the product call while it is being built. If the project is DACH-focused and the funding path matters, wunderwerk is well shaped for it. If the work crosses product strategy, mobile, IoT, AI, or international rollout and you want two founders accountable for the outcome, that is us.

FAQs

There is more overlap than the labels suggest. Both teams build full-stack software and AI. Their homepage positions the company around startups and SMEs in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, with apps, platforms, industrial software, automation and AI in the offer.1 Wavect is shaped around senior-only product ownership, international delivery, and products that cross several technical domains.
Yes, but it is not our sharpest fit. If your need is RAG over a document store or a classifier on top of an existing pipeline and nothing else, an AI specialist will usually deliver that faster and cheaper than we will.
Wavect is not listed as a KMU.DIGITAL consultant. If KMU.DIGITAL co-funding is a hard requirement on your side, wunderwerk appears in the WKO company registry as authorised to carry out KMU.DIGITAL & GREEN consulting, so that path runs through them or another listed consultant.4
We have shipped AI products end-to-end: PromptID (0 to production in 6 weeks, pilot and investor demo ready), Twinsoft AI (vibe-coded prototype rebuilt to enterprise MVP ), Hyperstate AI (stateful AI music production platform). Our case studies focus on AI inside shipped products. Their published AI work is framed as capabilities inside company operations: chatbots, recommendation systems, document classification, machine learning, image analysis and AI-generated reports.3
No. Those logos sit on the wunderwerk client wall, not ours.1 Our client base is documented on our case-studies page and is predominantly international.
