The real difference, in practice

Leftshift One has been doing applied AI since 2017, longer than most of the GenAI wave, with 200-plus AI projects claimed and references like SSI Schäfer and Novomatic on the published list. The current flagship is MyGPT: an enterprise GPT with retrieval over your own documents, SharePoint, Confluence and file-server connectors, hosting in certified EU data centres, and a stated no-training-on-your-data policy. For a mid-sized company that wants a secure internal assistant without building anything, that is a clean, fast answer.

The structural question is platform versus product. Licensing MyGPT means the roadmap, the pricing, and the boundaries of what is possible belong to the vendor, a VC-backed company whose priorities are set by its own product strategy. Token-based billing is transparent in mechanics but sales-gated in price. None of this is a criticism; it is what buying any platform means.

FAQs

Mostly, yes, and buy is often right. A platform that already does the job beats a custom build on speed and entry price. The trap is the platform that almost fits: every workaround is a recurring cost, and the gap never closes because the roadmap is not yours.
We are vendor-agnostic, so if a client already runs MyGPT we can build around it where their published interfaces allow. More often the question is platform or custom, decided once, honestly, based on how much of your need is standard.
Upfront, usually yes: our fixed-price discovery starts at €3,500 and a production build runs weeks of outcome fees, against a licence that starts in days. Over years, the maths can flip: licence costs scale with usage, and custom features on a platform you do not control are workarounds, not assets.
It is public record: the founder-CEO handed over in September 2025 and moved to EY, with co-founders still in the product and engineering leads. We would not over-read it. It is simply part of the vendor-stability picture a platform buyer should look at, alongside funding and roadmap.
