WAVECT vs HOLZWEG

# Wavect or holzweg. Platform depth on TYPO3, or product ownership.

holzweg is an Innsbruck agency that says it has been on the market since 1995, with TYPO3 as its primary CMS and Symfony and PHP in its published stack. We started in 2018 with a modern web and AI stack. The work overlaps at the edges: custom software for serious companies. The primary platforms, the published reference markets, and the engagement shapes do not. If you need a German-language TYPO3 platform from a vendor with that tenure, that is them. If you need a modern multilingual product with AI in it, that is us.

Independent comparison published by Wavect. Not affiliated with or endorsed by holzweg.

Illustrative buyer scenario, not a customer quotation

Vendor tenure and platform fit are two different questions, and the second one is worth asking out loud before you sign.

TL;DR

Modern stack vs TYPO3 and Symfony portals. English plus German delivery vs German-only. Shipping since 2018 with 75+ delivered vs three decades of CMS heritage. Different buyers, different problems.

## Decision snapshot

VerdictThe practical split: If the bullets on the right describe your project, holzweg is the closer fit. If the bullets on the left describe it, talk to us.

### Wavect is best when

- You need a partner who delivers in English alongside German, not a German-only shop.
- You are building a modern web or AI product, not a TYPO3 platform.
- Your customer base is international (or you want it to be) and your vendor needs to operate at that level.

### The alternative is best when

- You need a TYPO3, Symfony, or PHP build or migration on an existing enterprise portal. Those are the platforms their own stack page names. [2](#cmp-src-2)
- Your customer base is German-speaking and procurement favours an Austrian vendor with a long TYPO3 record. Their agency page dates the company to 1995. [1](#cmp-src-1)
- You are running a public-sector or regulated portal where vendor tenure is itself a procurement requirement.

### Questions to ask before you choose

1. Their published stack names TYPO3 as the primary CMS alongside Symfony, PHP, React, TypeScript, and Docker. [2](#cmp-src-2) Ask which of those they would put your product on, what the roadmap for that choice looks like over the next few years, and what moving off it would involve. Ask us exactly the same about Next.js and NestJS.
2. holzweg publishes its site in German, and we found no English-language version when we looked on 4 August 2026. [1](#cmp-src-1) Ask whether project communication, documentation, and support are available in English if your team or customer base becomes international.
3. We looked for published prices or rates on their site on 4 August 2026 and did not find any. [1](#cmp-src-1) Ask how the per-project quote is structured and where the cost ceiling sits if scope changes during the build. Ask us the same question and hold both answers to the same standard.

### Commercial risk to watch

- The visible price is not the whole cost; the risk sits in primary stack focus, delivery languages, and the moment scope changes.
- Ask what the vendor is paid to increase: hours, seats, retained advice, platform usage, or shipped outcomes.

### Evidence notes

- Every statement about holzweg on this page is sourced below, with the date we opened the page. Verify pricing, legal entity, references, and terms yourself before signing.
- This comparison is built from what holzweg publishes plus Wavect’s own operating model. It is not a statement about the quality of their work.

## Project fit: not limited to small builds

Project size and provider headcount are separate decisions. Wavect’s delivery unit is a named senior core, but that does not limit the work to MVPs or short startup projects. Larger projects are split into phases with separate budgets and acceptance criteria. We also build internal systems and process automations inside a client’s existing repositories, tooling and workflows. A vetted bench supports continuity and scope-specific capacity. A larger provider may still be the better choice when the main requirement is several parallel teams, an incumbent framework agreement or certifications Wavect does not currently hold.

// 03

## How they actually differ

Six dimensions where the two agencies actually diverge.

| WAVECT | DIMENSION | ALTERNATIVE |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Next.js, NestJS, React Native, modern Python AI stack, plus Solidity smart-contract work when projects need it. Greenfield products on the modern web and AI stack. | PRIMARY STACK FOCUS | TYPO3 as the primary CMS, with Symfony, PHP, React, TypeScript, Tailwind, and Docker named on their custom-software page. [2](#cmp-src-2) Published work is enterprise websites, portals, PIM and shop systems, plus AI automation on top of those. [1](#cmp-src-1) [3](#cmp-src-3) |
| Client delivery in English and German (both founders are native German speakers). Site localized in EN, DE, ES, ZH for international reach. | DELIVERY LANGUAGES | Site published in German. We found no English-language version of holzweg.com when we looked on 4 August 2026, so ask them directly if you need English delivery. [1](#cmp-src-1) |
| 17 countries. Austrian-headquartered, working internationally. | AREA SERVED | Published references are companies in Austria, Switzerland, and Italy. [4](#cmp-src-4) The company register lists a single seat in Innsbruck. [6](#cmp-src-6) |
| Senior only. One to three people per engagement, founder in every call. | TEAM MODEL | holzweg does not publish a headcount on its own site; the Standortagentur Tirol IT cluster directory lists it in the 6 to 10 employee band. [5](#cmp-src-5) Their published process runs from requirements workshops through architecture, agile iterations, integration, and operations. [2](#cmp-src-2) |
| Weekly outcome retainer from €400 per week, full-stack delivery €10,000 to €30,000 per month, or fixed-price Werkvertrag from €3,500 (Discovery Phase). | PRICING MODEL | Project quote per scope. We looked for published prices or rates on 4 August 2026 and did not find any. [1](#cmp-src-1) |
| Founded 2018, 75+ products shipped, Google 5.0, Trustpilot 4.5, Clutch 5.0. | TRACK RECORD | On the market since 1995 by their own account, with more than 250 clients stated on their agency page. [1](#cmp-src-1) [5](#cmp-src-5) holzweg GmbH has been in the Austrian company register under FN 423141t since 29 November 2014 and is listed as active. [6](#cmp-src-6) |

// 04

## The real difference, in practice

holzweg says it has been on the market from Innsbruck since 1995, and states more than 250 clients on its agency page. [1](#cmp-src-1) Its custom-software page names TYPO3 as the primary CMS alongside Symfony, PHP, React, TypeScript, Tailwind, and Docker. [2](#cmp-src-2) For a content-heavy corporate portal in the TYPO3 ecosystem, a vendor who has run that platform for years carries institutional knowledge we do not pretend to match.

We are a different shape of shop. Shipping since 2018, seventy-five-plus shipped products, a modern stack, and delivery in English as well as German. Where holzweg’s published centre of gravity is the TYPO3 platform and the systems around it, ours is the bespoke product: web and mobile apps, AI features, on-chain systems, the things that do not fit a content-management template.

The AI question is not a gap on their side. Their AI page publishes chatbots, AI search over knowledge bases, n8n workflow automation, voice agents, and company LLM environments, framed as AI that plugs into existing TYPO3, CRM, ERP, and DMS systems. [3](#cmp-src-3) That is a different starting point from ours, not a lesser one.

So the choice gets easier once you name the job. If you are migrating or running a large TYPO3 portal, they have the platform history. If you are building a product that happens to need a marketing site, or you need English-language delivery for an international team, that is us.

Different buyers, different problems. See [how we build web products](/services/web-apps/).

## When each is the better call

// 01

### When Wavect is the better call

- You need a partner who delivers in English alongside German, not a German-only shop.
- You are building a modern web or AI product, not a TYPO3 platform.
- Your customer base is international (or you want it to be) and your vendor needs to operate at that level.
- You are pre product-market fit and need founder-grade pushback on scope, not ticket execution against a fixed spec.

// 02

### When holzweg is the better call

- You need a TYPO3, Symfony, or PHP build or migration on an existing enterprise portal. Those are the platforms their own stack page names. [2](#cmp-src-2)
- Your customer base is German-speaking and procurement favours an Austrian vendor with a long TYPO3 record. Their agency page dates the company to 1995. [1](#cmp-src-1)
- You are running a public-sector or regulated portal where vendor tenure is itself a procurement requirement.
- Your scope is fixed, your stack is mandated, and you want a vendor whose published process starts from requirements workshops and runs into long-term operations. [2](#cmp-src-2)

## FAQs

### Is Wavect a direct competitor of holzweg?

Only at the edges. Both shops ship custom software for serious clients. Their site puts TYPO3 platforms, portals, custom software, and AI automation for the German-speaking market at the centre. [1](#cmp-src-1) [3](#cmp-src-3) Wavect is a senior-only modern-stack shop for international product teams.

### Does Wavect do TYPO3 projects?

No. We work in modern web frameworks (Next.js, NestJS, React Native) and the modern AI stack. If your project is a TYPO3 build or migration, holzweg names TYPO3 as its primary CMS and is a more appropriate vendor than we are. [2](#cmp-src-2)

### Can Wavect deliver in German?

Yes. We deliver client work in German and English. Both founders are native German speakers. Our site is localized in four languages (EN, DE, ES, ZH) for international reach, but the spoken and written delivery happens in English or German on every engagement.

### Is Wavect cheaper than holzweg?

Neither shop publishes hourly rates, so a direct comparison is not possible. [1](#cmp-src-1) We looked at their site on 4 August 2026 and found no published prices or rates. Our weekly retainers start at €400 per week, full-stack delivery runs €10,000 to €30,000 per month, and our [fixed-price](/glossary/fixed-price/) [Discovery Phase](/glossary/discovery-phase/) starts at €3,500. Their site says quotes are made per project on request. [1](#cmp-src-1)

### Does holzweg do modern AI projects?

Yes. Their AI page publishes chatbots, AI search, n8n workflow automation, voice agents, and company LLM environments, positioned as AI that works inside existing TYPO3, CRM, ERP, and DMS systems. [3](#cmp-src-3) The advantage they state is connecting AI to platforms and content operations that are already running. [3](#cmp-src-3) Ours is owning the wider product, roadmap, and modern application stack when AI is one part of what must ship.

      "description": "holzweg is an Innsbruck agency that says it has been on the market since 1995, with TYPO3 as its primary CMS and Symfony and PHP in its published stack. We started in 2018 with a modern web and AI stack. The work overlaps at the edges: custom software for serious companies. The primary platforms, the published reference markets, and the engagement shapes do not. If you need a German-language TYPO3 platform from a vendor with that tenure, that is them. If you need a modern multilingual product with AI in it, that is us.",
