WAVECT vs EUROPEAN FRACTIONAL NETWORKS

# Wavect or a European fractional CTO network. One matched individual part-time, or a small senior team on a weekly outcome.

European fractional networks match you with one screened individual, part-time. What they publish ranges from a single session to one to three days a week, and at least one of them now publishes an option where the matched CTO leads a product initiative. We sell a founder-operator plus a small senior team who advise AND ship inside the same engagement. Same label on the box. Different unit of work.

Independent comparison published by Wavect. Not affiliated with or endorsed by European fractional networks.

Illustrative buyer scenario, not a customer quotation

Our network-sourced fractional was excellent at architecture review twice a month. They were not in the room when we needed to kill a feature in week three.

TL;DR

EU networks (Pangea, Malt, Connectd, HighCircl) match you with one advisor on a monthly retainer. We sell advice and execution from the same operator. Network if you have engineers. Us if you need both jobs in one team.

// 01

## Decision snapshot

VerdictThe practical split: If the bullets on the right describe your situation, the network is the cleaner pick. If the bullets on the left describe it, talk to us.

### Wavect is best when

- You need both the advice and the execution. There is no engineering team to hand the recommendation to yet.
- You want pushback that comes with implementation responsibility. We have to ship what we recommend.
- You want one bill, one accountability line. Not an advisor plus contractors plus stitching across vendors.

### The alternative is best when

- You need a specific niche domain expert that Wavect does not carry in house (e.g. ex-Stripe payments lead, regulated-markets fintech CTO, ex-FAANG ML director). Marketplace breadth is the matching tool.
- You want to browse profiles, compare credentials side by side, and pick the advisor yourself. The marketplace is the value.
- You want continuity with one named individual you select yourself, not a studio relationship with two founders plus rotating senior contractors.

### Questions to ask before you choose

1. What does the network publish about hours, notice period and replacement, and what does it leave to the matched individual to contract separately?
2. Who is accountable for shipping the recommendation, the advisor or your own team? Ask us the same question.
3. If the match turns out wrong in week three, what does the published trial or replacement policy actually cover?

### Commercial risk to watch

- The visible price is not the whole cost. The risk sits in the pricing unit, the engagement shape, and the moment the scope changes.
- Ask what the vendor is paid to increase: hours, seats, retained advice, platform usage, or shipped outcomes. Ask us the same question.

### Evidence notes

- Use the source links on this page as the starting point, then verify pricing, legal entity, references, and terms before signing.
- This comparison rests on what each network publishes and on Wavect’s own operating model. It is not a hidden quality claim about any named network, or about any individual matched through one.

## Project fit: not limited to small builds

Project size and provider headcount are separate decisions. Wavect’s delivery unit is a named senior core, but that does not limit the work to MVPs or short startup projects. Larger projects are split into phases with separate budgets and acceptance criteria. We also build internal systems and process automations inside a client’s existing repositories, tooling and workflows. A vetted bench supports continuity and scope-specific capacity. A larger provider may still be the better choice when the main requirement is several parallel teams, an incumbent framework agreement or certifications Wavect does not currently hold.

// 03

## How they actually differ

Six dimensions where a European fractional network and Wavect actually diverge.

| WAVECT | DIMENSION | ALTERNATIVE |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Weekly outcome fee. From €400 per week, or €10,000 to €30,000 per month for full-stack delivery. | PRICING MODEL | Time-based, and published differently by each network. MentorCruise cites a $10,000 to $20,000 per month range for a fractional CTO at 10 to 24 hours a week. [5](#cmp-src-5) HighCircl publishes one to three days a week and states that rates vary with the stack and seniority required. [4](#cmp-src-4) On the Pangea and Connectd pages we reviewed on 2026-08-04 we did not find a published rate card, and Connectd states only that it is free for startups to join. [1](#cmp-src-1) [3](#cmp-src-3) |
| Founder-operator plus a small senior team. We advise AND ship. | ENGAGEMENT SHAPE | One matched individual, part-time. Pangea publishes a one-time session, weekly or monthly advisory, or defining and leading a product initiative. [1](#cmp-src-1) MentorCruise states that its fractional CTOs embed in your team and own outcomes, as against consultants who recommend and leave. [5](#cmp-src-5) HighCircl frames the role around architecture direction, hiring the first engineering team, vendor selection and investor due diligence. [4](#cmp-src-4) |
| Founder plus engineer on every call. | WHO YOU ACTUALLY TALK TO | One matched individual for the time you buy. [5](#cmp-src-5) Changing the match sits with the network: HighCircl publishes a no-risk trial period and an immediate free replacement if expectations are not met. [4](#cmp-src-4) |
| Two founders, no marketplace. Senior bar is structural, not browsable. | SELECTION | Marketplace search or curated match, depending on the network. Malt publishes keyword and AI search across a community of more than 850,000 available freelancers. [2](#cmp-src-2) Connectd publishes 6,000 members across more than 40 countries. [3](#cmp-src-3) Pangea describes an invite-only CTO network with matching inside 72 hours. [1](#cmp-src-1) |
| Cancel any week. Werkvertrag on fixed-price work. | EXIT TERMS | Per network, and published as a trial rather than as a notice period. MentorCruise publishes a 7-day free trial with no payment required. [5](#cmp-src-5) HighCircl publishes a no-risk trial period. [4](#cmp-src-4) Ask for the notice period and the post-trial term in writing. |
| Refund the last week if it did not blow you away. | WHAT IF IT FAILS | Replacement rather than refund is what these pages publish: HighCircl a free replacement, MentorCruise a walk-away inside the 7-day trial. [4](#cmp-src-4) [5](#cmp-src-5) On the Pangea and Connectd pages we reviewed on 2026-08-04 we did not find a published guarantee. [1](#cmp-src-1) [3](#cmp-src-3) Ask what happens commercially once the trial window closes. |

// 04

## The real difference, in practice

European fractional networks match you with one screened individual on a part-time basis. What they publish differs from network to network. Pangea describes an invite-only CTO network and lists three shapes: a one-time session, weekly or monthly advisory, and defining and leading a product initiative in which the CTO also manages teams and oversees development. [1](#cmp-src-1) HighCircl publishes one to three days per week, drawn from what it calls the top 10 percent of European talent. [4](#cmp-src-4) MentorCruise publishes 10 to 24 hours a week of embedded leadership and states that its fractional CTOs embed in your team and own outcomes. [5](#cmp-src-5) Connectd publishes a network of 6,000 members across more than 40 countries and states that it is free to join for startups. [3](#cmp-src-3) Malt is broader than the others: a freelance management platform with more than 850,000 available freelancers, plus a separate arm for management consultants and interim managers. [2](#cmp-src-2)

So the old shorthand, that a network sells advice while your own team executes, is only partly right today. If you already have engineers and the gap is senior guidance, a network match is a clean fit. We sell advice and execution from the same operator: the person setting the technical strategy is also on the hook for shipping it, which removes the handoff between the advisor who decides and the team that builds.

The split is therefore about what you already have in-house, and about who carries the shipping. Strong team, missing only counsel: a network match is the lighter engagement. A monthly time allocation and a weekly outcome fee are different units, so compare the total cost of reaching the outcome rather than one rate against another. Ask the network who owns delivery, and ask us the same question. None of this is a claim that a network-matched CTO is less capable.

## When each is the better call

// 01

### When Wavect is the better call

- You need both the advice and the execution. There is no engineering team to hand the recommendation to yet.
- You want pushback that comes with implementation responsibility. We have to ship what we recommend.
- You want one bill, one accountability line. Not an advisor plus contractors plus stitching across vendors.
- You want both advice and implementation from the same operator, billed against the same scope. Not a network-matched advisor plus separately-contracted developers stitched together.

// 02

### When a European fractional network is the better call

- You need a specific niche domain expert that Wavect does not carry in house (e.g. ex-Stripe payments lead, regulated-markets fintech CTO, ex-FAANG ML director). Marketplace breadth is the matching tool.
- You want to browse profiles, compare credentials side by side, and pick the advisor yourself. The marketplace is the value.
- You want continuity with one named individual you select yourself, not a studio relationship with two founders plus rotating senior contractors.
- Your procurement is marketplace-constrained (specific listed vendors, framework agreements, or programme requirements).

If the bullets on the right describe your situation, the network is the cleaner pick. If the bullets on the left describe it, talk to us.

## FAQs

### How is Wavect different from a fractional CTO sourced via Pangea, Malt, or Connectd?

The unit of work differs. Pangea publishes one-time sessions and weekly or monthly advisory alongside an option where the CTO defines and leads an initiative. [1](#cmp-src-1) MentorCruise publishes 10 to 24 hours a week. [5](#cmp-src-5) We sell weekly outcomes with a founder plus engineer on every call. If you have engineers to act on the advice, a network is set up for exactly that. If you do not have engineers yet, the advice compounds slowly and the cost per shipped outcome moves in our favour, though a monthly time allocation and a weekly outcome fee are not directly comparable units.

### Can Wavect work alongside a network-sourced fractional CTO?

Yes. We do this regularly. The advisor stays on for strategic continuity, we run a [sprint](/glossary/sprint/) against a specific outcome, scopes stay separate, accountability lines stay clean.

### Is Wavect on Pangea, Malt, or any European marketplace?

We are not listed as a fractional individual on those networks. We are a small studio with our own SoW and contracting. If your procurement requires a listed marketplace vendor, that is a constraint we cannot meet today.

### Why is Wavect more expensive per hour than a network-matched fractional CTO?

Per hour, quite possibly. HighCircl states that rates vary with the stack and seniority required, so on the page we reviewed on 2026-08-04 there was no rate card to compare against. [4](#cmp-src-4) The one published monthly figure we found is MentorCruise’s $10,000 to $20,000 a month for 10 to 24 hours a week. [5](#cmp-src-5) Per shipped product the arithmetic depends on whether your team can execute the advice. If it can, the cheaper retainer wins. If it cannot, the shipped-outcome model usually wins, and either way a monthly time allocation is not the same unit as a weekly outcome fee.

### What is the smallest engagement?

[Discovery Phase](/glossary/discovery-phase/) at €3,500 for two to three weeks. That produces architecture, milestone plan, and a [fixed-price](/glossary/fixed-price/) offer for the build. Most founders comparing fractional networks start there.

MentorCruise publishes 10 to 24 hours a week. We sell weekly outcomes with a founder plus engineer on every call. If you have engineers to act on the advice, a network is set up for exactly that. If you do not have engineers yet, the advice compounds slowly and the cost per shipped outcome moves in our favour, though a monthly time allocation and a weekly outcome fee are not directly comparable units."

        "text": "Per hour, quite possibly. HighCircl states that rates vary with the stack and seniority required, so on the page we reviewed on 2026-08-04 there was no rate card to compare against. The one published monthly figure we found is MentorCruise's $10,000 to $20,000 a month for 10 to 24 hours a week. Per shipped product the arithmetic depends on whether your team can execute the advice. If it can, the cheaper retainer wins. If it cannot, the shipped-outcome model usually wins, and either way a monthly time allocation is not the same unit as a weekly outcome fee."
