# MCP Cloud vs Manufact Cloud: Which MCP Hosting Platform Fits?

## Why use cloud hosting for an MCP server?

A remote MCP server is useful when several people, agents or customer applications need the same always-available endpoint. The official [MCP architecture overview](https://modelcontextprotocol.io/docs/learn/architecture) distinguishes local stdio servers, which typically serve one client, from remote servers using Streamable HTTP, which typically serve many clients. Hosting adds TLS, runtime management, secrets, scaling and logs around that endpoint.

It does not make the tool safe by itself. The server still decides what each identity may read or change, how downstream credentials are exchanged, which tenant a request belongs to and whether a retried write can run twice. A platform can provide useful controls, but it cannot infer your business authorization model from a tool schema.

Its [public pricing page](https://mcp-cloud.io/pricing) displayed a $19 Starter package, $49 Personal, $149 Professional and $499 Premium plan when checked, alongside usage-based offers and a custom Business plan. The packages mix compute, server counts, agent hosting, toolsets and security features, so compare the cost of your complete workload rather than one headline price. Confirm limits, included credits, retention and overages in the checkout or contract.

For enterprise architecture, the vendor's [company deployment overview](https://mcp-cloud.io/companies) describes fully managed cloud, hybrid and fully on-premise options. That is the most material differentiator for a buyer with private networks or a control-plane residency requirement. Treat it as a starting point for procurement. Ask which components, telemetry, updates and support channels remain vendor-operated in each model.

## What does Manufact Cloud optimize for?

Manufact Cloud is shaped more like a vertical developer platform. A server can start from a GitHub repository, template, coding agent or existing URL. The documented workflow covers builds, per-branch previews, production promotion, secrets, custom domains, logs, session replay, traffic analytics, publish checks and connections to clients such as ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor and Codex.

Manufact's [public pricing page](https://manufact.com/pricing) displayed a Free plan with two projects and $5 of monthly credits, Hobby at $25 per month, Startup at $250 per month and custom Enterprise pricing when checked. Analytics retention, team size, preview deployments, cold-start prevention and region access vary by plan. Model your request volume, execution duration, retention and preview usage because included credits alone do not predict the production bill.

The vendor's [MCP hosting documentation](https://manufact.com/platform/hosting) emphasizes GitHub-triggered builds, a preview URL for each branch, managed TLS, custom domains, environment-specific secrets, framework detection and Dockerfile support. This is compelling when the team already ships through pull requests and wants the MCP endpoint to follow the same review rhythm.

## Which platform is better for teams and governance?

MCP Cloud puts governance, inventory and composition near the center of its product language. Manufact documents organization roles, projects and custom Enterprise roles. The important detail is granularity, not whether a page says RBAC.

Manufact's [roles and permissions reference](https://docs.manufact.com/dashboard/permissions) says its built-in Member role is operational, not read-only: members can create, update and delete servers, deployments, agents, API keys, domains and GitHub integrations. Fine-grained custom roles are an Enterprise feature. A small product team may value that simplicity. A regulated team should price custom roles into the decision and test separation of deployer, security reviewer, billing administrator and read-only auditor.

For either vendor, request evidence for SSO enforcement, service accounts, key rotation, immutable audit export, retention, regional processing, backup recovery, incident notification and tenant isolation. A screenshot of a policy dashboard is not proof that a downstream ERP rejects a cross-tenant object ID.

## What security questions should you ask before buying?

Use those requirements as acceptance tests, not as optional hardening after launch.

- **Token audience:** does the server reject a token issued for another resource?
- **Downstream identity:** are user tokens exchanged for narrow downstream credentials instead of forwarded?
- **Tenant source:** does tenant identity come from verified claims rather than a tool argument?
- **Tool exposure:** can each client, team and environment receive a minimal allowlist?
- **Request destinations:** are redirects, metadata endpoints, webhooks and user-supplied URLs protected against SSRF?
- **Audit evidence:** can you export caller, tool, arguments classification, policy decision, downstream result and correlation ID without leaking secrets?
- **Recovery:** can you revoke credentials, roll back a deployment and reconstruct the affected calls within your incident target?
- **Exit:** can the server code, configuration, secrets map and client URLs move without rewriting the business integration?

## When should you choose MCP Cloud?

- You already have several hosted, self-hosted or third-party MCP servers and need one inventory.
- You want to compose a smaller approved tool surface from several servers.
- Hybrid or on-premise deployment is a procurement gate.
- Persistent agent hosting and MCP management should live in one commercial platform.
- A centralized security and access layer matters more than branch-preview ergonomics.

Validate the precise enterprise boundary. “On-premise” can mean anything from a full private control plane to a data-plane proxy that still depends on a vendor SaaS console.

## When should you choose Manufact Cloud?

- Each pull request should receive a production-like preview endpoint.

## When should you self-host or build a custom MCP platform?

Self-host when runtime location, network policy, unit economics or integration control is strategic and your team can own the operational burden.
