How to compare blockchain development proposals
The following is our suggested buying framework, not a legal standard, certification scheme or assessment of these companies. Ask each relevant provider to respond to the same scope and separate unknowns from agreed deliverables.
Define the delivery boundary. State whether you are commissioning a contract, an application, an integration or a complete product. Ask each candidate to list interfaces, dependencies and exclusions. A contract-only quote should not be compared as though it included the interface, backend, deployment and support in another proposal.
Name decision and operating responsibilities. Ask who approves product changes, controls deployment accounts, maintains infrastructure and handles incidents after handover. Require explicit key-management and administrative-role arrangements for your project. Do not assume a developer automatically becomes the long-term operator or custodian.
Separate development from assurance. Request the test plan, intended review scope and responsibility for fixing findings. Where an independent assessment is required, identify the separate reviewer, the release reviewed and what happens after changes. Do not infer security or legal clearance from a provider category or a checklist.
Compare ownership and the full commercial scope. Ask which source code, licences, configuration, documentation and accounts transfer to you, and which remain dependent on third parties. Request comparable assumptions for implementation, external review, infrastructure and support. A small, comparable brief before a larger commission
Illustrative example, not a real client project: a membership application needs a wallet-connected entitlement and an existing customer portal. Ask each candidate to explain whether blockchain is justified, which components it proposes and what it would leave out of the first delivery.
For a scoped, paid discovery or evaluation, agree representative evidence in advance: one user journey, an example of a denied action, an interrupted transaction and a handover walkthrough. Ask how the interface communicates the result and who investigates a failed workflow. Use test data and a suitable non-production environment; do not introduce customer assets merely to compare providers.
